i'm new to the digital camera world. we're heading to ireland pretty soon, and i need to know how to best store my digital photos from a fuji finepix s5200 (which uses an xd memory card).i have two cards, and am looking for another to bring, but i am worried i will run out of space on my cards before the end of the trip if i can't find a way to unload pictures off the cards. we may be able to find an internet cafe in some of the larger areas, but otherwise we will be without a computer. we have an imac at home, so anything i do needs to be compatible there too.any suggestions?lol, i know it's a developed country. but plain XD (not the M or H) cards are pretty hard to find...even here i can usually only find them on-line. and given the exchange rate between the euro & our weak dollar, i'd rather go prepared than have to buy something there. not having been there yet, i was unsure of how often i'd run across a photo place or cafe that i could do this in. (there are none here within about an hour's drive of my house, so have little experience with them.) if they are common, then that may be an easy way of handling pictures.nope, no computer will be going with us. believe it or no, there are still some of us out there who do not own a laptop, lol.

Contrary to popular belief, Ireland is a pretty developed nation. If you run out of memory cards, you can just pick up an extra card there, or walk into any camera shop or internet cafe to have one of your cards copied to a CD or DVD.

You need something like thishttp://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11213641&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|84|31022|4298&N=4017767&Mo=9&pos=2&No=4&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=4298&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10626-Cat31022&topnav=But it's easier to get an extra or two cards. They cost so little nowaday. Or you can carry your laptop with you--but most people don't do that. Photoframes are not for this purpose by the way.

If you are taking your notebook computer with you to access your email, just save the images to it and then format the cards before you re-use them. To be extra safe, burn some CD's or DVD's of your image files each night before you go to sleep. This is what I did while on a nine and a half week trip to the Caribbean.

I have taken extended trips and you have a few options if you're not taking a computer/notebook with you:1) buy more memory cards before you leave. This was my choice. I simply estimated how many shots I thought I would take, doubled that, and got cards to cover it. This is often the cheapest solution and since you can re-use the cards, it's cost-effective too. I would take the number of cards you'll think you'll use, double that and make sure you have that many cards.2) In addition to buying more memory cards, I got a portable storage device to copy the cards to as a backup. You can simply use your two cards and copy to a backup device. The trick is to find a backup device that will accept xD cards. There are plenty of devices which take compact flash cards. You might try a device called a fotochute (do a search and you'll find it for sale) which plugs into cameras via USB.3) Personally, I think the cheapest and easiest solution is to simply buy more xD memory chips. A storage device will cost you at least $150, which would get you at least 4 more memory cards. I found that I was always nervous about my backup, so having the extra cards and not erasing my photos worked out much better for me.
