Translating, interpreting, teaching....we REALLY need teachers who speak Spanish and English well and with education, especially to communicate with the parents who often donยดt understand English (or don't understand enough to REALLY get what is being told to them by the monolinguist teacher). How about lawyer, Doctor, all sorts of professionals benefit by having multiple language abilities. ร've done translating for both. Again, lots of people who are conversant in English, but not fluent enough when dealing with a stressful situation.Being in court or dealing with a serious medical condition qualify as stressful situations.

Hello!!Linguistics is an interesting field! It is the science of language and its main focus is finding a theory which describes human language in a way that unites all human languages while still accounting for their differences. It is very abstract and theoretical and strives to pin down the unconscious knowledge a native speaker has about his or her language. So general linguistics could be considered a mixture of grammar, logic, and philosophy! fun fun fun!!!Here are some subfields under linguistics:sociolinguistics- sociology + linguistics (emphasis on culture)psycholinguistics- psychology + linguistics (emphasis on cognition)applied linguistics- teaching languagesclinical linguistics- speech language pathologyAnd what I have decided to go into is: computational linguistics (100,000+/yr ;) ) where you apply the models and rules you make about languages and language in general to computer programming, creating online translators that WORK!!! Plus you'll be able to get a job in almost any country and teach later if you'd like :)But yea, if you like languages you should think about going into linguistics :)
