I'm a transfer student at a 4-year university majoring in English, minoring in writing, and probably legal studies. How do I pursue my career after I graduate? I heard that some paralegals get on-the-job training. Also, how and when do I take the legal assistant exam?

You will definitely get on the job training. It's very good to have some legal studies knowledge first. If you are going to minor in legal studies it's a great area. And the fact that you are majoring in English is going to be a great asset for you because of all the research and writing involved in being a paralegal. You can take the legal assistant exam, CLA, when you have graduated. The CLA is offered 3 times per year, in March/April, July, and November/December. You definitely are going to need to purchase the CLA study guides to study for the exam as it has a pass/fail rate of 40/60 for the first time. You can visit www.nala.org for more information. Good luck!
