ok i have a gateway w340ui laptop, it has built in wifi.BUT im getting a wireless N router. now do i need to go and buy a wireless N upgraded card, or will my built in wifi work fine??? im assuming the built in is 802.11g . i really dont want to waste the money on a card, if mine will work fine. im only gonna be using my laptop and my WII on the wireless router.i had a wireless G router before, and it worked fine, i never had any problems. but im wondering if i wasted my money on the N router if im not using a N card.? will i only connect to G if i dont upgrade to a Ncard???thanksBeebs thats exactly the answer i was looking for!!!! thank you. i didnt understand how a N router can do like 100 plus mbps, when my broadband is only rated at 50mbps?? i didnt factor in the pc to pc transfers! (which i never do) thank you all for your answers, it really helped, im not very good with all this tech stuff LOL

your G card will work with your N router, but you will only be able to get 54mpbs instead of the 125 or 300 offered by N routers.Since your home broadband probably isnt anywhere near 54mbps, this isnt a problem unless you are transferring files from PC to PC wirelessly in your house, when the higher speed might be useful. In essence, you won't have any problems.Beebs

If your laptop has built in Wifi you should be able to jsut connect to a wireless network as long as the frequency is the same as the router. Most are 802.11 so I would suggest getting the router, setting up your home network and then trying to connect. I am sure you won't need a card upgrade.Good luck

don't call it a waste of money, n band is all around better ,period! my belkin usb -n- band was only$ 69.00 from walmart yes about $30.00 more then g but the signal is way by far better, i even tested it with a linksys wrtg router and it sucks in the g signal alot better then g-band only adapter, read the reveiws,,even if you only have a g band router,,the n band adapter still outperforms the g band ones, see for yourself test both,,just bring it back if your not happy, walmart took mine back ,no questions asked. well of course they ask why, but i just told them i wasn't satisfied with the performance i even tried afew like the d-link,netgear,and linksys but i chose the belkin because it better, they didn't have a problem with that,
